We are specialists in providing palliative care to children and young people and we also offer a much-needed source of strength and support for the whole family.
If you are caring for a child with a life-limiting condition and face the prospect that they may not reach adulthood, we will probably be able to help. We will support you and your family overcome many of the challenges you face and we can help improve the quality of life for your child. We will provide comfort during difficult times and develop lots of opportunities for happy times and cherished memories, making the most of the time you have with your child. We focus on making every day count, however long your child’s journey may be.
We work with you so that you experience the highest standards of care, delivered by experts in an environment that is best suited to your family’s needs.
It may be difficult to find someone to take care of your child due their condition.
Even a visit to the shop or going out for a meal may seem impossible.
Your child may have complex medical and care needs that require 24 hour supervision, for example it may be necessary to ensure constant attention to their feeding and medication regimes.
Disrupted sleep can lead to exhaustion, to feelings of isolation and an inability to cope and, in turn, can seriously impact on your family life.
If you identify with any or all of the above you may benefit from short break care provided at Tŷ Hafan’s hospice in the Vale of Glamorgan.
We recognise how difficult it can be to entrust the care of your child to others, which is why we work with you to help you feel comfortable and assure you of the quality of our care. What’s more, we endeavour to ensure that your child, their siblings and the whole family are excited by the prospect of a visit to Tŷ Hafan or a home visit by a member of Tŷ Hafan’s nursing or care team.
Through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation, a professional package of specialist palliative care is designed to meet the specific needs of your child and every family member.
At Tŷ Hafan, we give siblings time, attention and space to be themselves and we give parents the opportunity to be parents, not carers.
“As a dad, the most valuable thing Tŷ Hafan gives me is experiences – the chance to spend quality time with Rhys and do fun things. Our daughter, Carys, loves Tŷ Hafan as well and has a great time when she visits.”
Our staff are highly skilled and experienced in caring for children with complex and rare conditions at every stage of their lives.
We maintain the highest standards and are regulated by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales.
