Ty Hafan

the foamiest family fun run

Having a bubble bath will take on a whole new meaning for fundraising families in Cardiff this summer, as Wales’ first ever Bubble Rush makes its debut in the city in aid of the children’s hospice in Wales, Tŷ Hafan.

In this brand new event, which takes place in Cardiff’s Coopers Field on 16 June, participants can run, jog, walk, dance or toddle through a 5 km course, passing through four Bubble Stations where canons pump out coloured foam to create a 4ft deep foam pit. The events are not timed, every course is family friendly, pushchairs and wheelchairs are more than welcome and everyone gets a medal at the end.

“Excitement is bubbling up around this event, and we’re looking for participants who can be the very first to find out there’s no place like foam whilst at the same time raising vital funds to support children with life limiting conditions”, said Jodie Harris, Events Manager at Tŷ Hafan.

“This event is all about creating magical memories with your family and friends, just like the ones that get created at Tŷ Hafan for our families. Each year more families are turning to us for care and support than ever before. We need to ensure we can keep raising funds to meet the growing need on our hospice.

Jodie added: ““By taking part in our Bubble Rush, you are helping our families make the most of the precious time they have left together. Your valued sponsorship allows us to continue funding for Tŷ Hafan a place that brings medicine and magical moments to the children of Wales. So get your family, friends or work colleagues together and sign up today”.

Rob Jones, Tŷ Hafan dad and Chief Executive, said “I first stepped through the doors of Tŷ Hafan seven years ago with the same feelings of trepidation that I`m sure all Tŷ Hafan parents have on their first visit. I certainly never imagined then that I would end up here as Chief Executive.

“My daughter Poppy was referred to the hospice in 2011. Poppy has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and chronic lung disease. There have been times when it`s been very touch-and-go and we feel very lucky that she has been with us for the last 12 years. She is quite a character with a great sense of humour”.

Rob added: “Like a lot of the children that benefit from Tŷ Hafan, we have to make the most of the time we have together. Tŷ Hafan allows Poppy to be a normal 12-year-old and is made to feel like one of the girls. It`s also the only place we can go as a family to have a complete rest. There is no alternative for families like ours. Without Tŷ Hafan, we wouldn`t have a caring, supportive service for children with life-limiting conditions”.

Entry into the Bubble Rush is £18 each and £15 per person for groups of five or more. For more information or to register today, visit www.tyhafan.org/bubblerush or email events@tyhafan.org .
