lindsay doyle, volunteer ambassador for tŷ hafan

When I was asked if I would consider being an Ambassador for Tŷ Hafan, it was one of the proudest days of my life.

As a father-of-four and grandfather-of-five, I didn’t need any persuading. It was a great honour and privilege to be asked to represent such an amazing charity.

What do I do as a Volunteer Ambassador?

lindsay doyleThe role is varied. I’ve done everything from bucket collections at a beer festival, to formal dinners with Lord Mayors, to dressing up in Tŷ Hafan’s Christmas Pantomime as a six-foot snow rabbit!

As an Ambassador, I believe the greatest gift you can give to Tŷ Hafan is your time and commitment. Volunteering is always done around your own personal requirements. There’s never any pressure to do anything that you don’t want to or can’t fit around your lifestyle.

I get great satisfaction from representing the charity at various functions. The more routine requirements include supporting at various events, cheque collections or just informing groups, such as Rotary Clubs and the WI, about the wonderful place that is Tŷ Hafan.

The support team in Tŷ Hafan is excellent.  They are always on-hand and regularly update us on important information that we are able to pass on at our presentations.

After almost four years as an Ambassador, I have found that no presentation is the same and none should be scripted. You have to deliver your presentation with passion, belief and a huge dose of emotion to get the desired impact on your audience.

I have never done one presentation without getting emotional about Tŷ Hafan and the amazing things it does for the children and families of life-limited children, free of charge to families across Wales.

However, it is also extremely important to highlight that one of the greatest emotions of all that Tŷ Hafan brings to a child is happiness, laughter and a commitment to fulfil any and every need a child or young adult could want.

Another great thing about being an ambassador is after doing a presentation, somebody comes up to you and says: “Thank you. How can I get involved? It’s a wonderful thing you are involved in.”
