Ty Hafan

#family friday

whacky world of fundraising

Nineteen days, a few hundred Christmas gifts, several Cardiff Devils and Cardiff City players, six pantomimes, three costumes, a wrapping party, a festive quiz, a late night hairdressing session and one 15ft spruce pine tree saved from almost certain doom.

And that was just December!

I joined the Tŷ Hafan fundraising team in June 2014, the latest destination on a long and winding road through holiday camps, pensions, web development and, most recently, research analysis for Castleoak, a care home design, build and development company based in Cardiff.

Two years after I started, we chose Tŷ Hafan to be our charity partner.

Two years after that we hit our target of £100,000.

Six months after that I applied for the role of Business and Community Support Officer... I’m honestly not too sure where the time’s gone since then!

My job’s pretty varied (see opening statement!) but a large part of it involves supporting people who’ve decided that doing their bit for charity is best served with a challenge on the side. From skydives and sponsored walks to marathons and mountain climbing, the list of things that people are willing to put themselves through to raise money for Tŷ Hafan is seemingly endless. One of my best experiences at Tŷ Hafan so far was cheering on our Cardiff Half runners along Lloyd George Avenue. All 50-odd of them. It’s a cliché, but the effort and determination on show that morning, from all the runners, was, genuinely, inspirational.

If you’re one of these bonkers but brilliant people, thank you! You guys help make my job worthwhile, even if you do make me feel desperately unfit while you’re at it. I really must get back on that treadmill...
