Lewis 13, and Ben and Ollie, both 14, from Caerphilly, decided that this January they would join together to fundraise for Tŷ Hafan once again, a charity which is important to them all.
Lewis explained that fitness has played an important part in his and his two friends’ lives, as they all enjoy playing football and rugby. He found that during lockdown “all sports had stopped and with school being cancelled there wasn’t even any PE lessons”.
They decided rather than sitting at home playing video games that they would start running and set themselves the challenge of fundraising for Tŷ Hafan. The friends have supported the charity in the past and this year wanted to better themselves as individuals and “help those that are less fortunate” Ollie explained.
So far, they’ve completed 43km and have January to reach the 100km target. Ben explained that this is even more of a challenge for himself being a beginner to running but wanted to prove himself and “get fitter during lockdown”. If running 100k wasn’t difficult enough, they have decided to make the challenge even more extreme by doing a lot of “uphill running” he added.
The friends have fundraised just over £1,000 so far, which has blown their £100 target out of the water! Fundraising for the children and their families who use the services provided by us is the motivation pushing the three friends each day to complete the challenge they have set, whether it is rain or shine, they will not give up.
