Two years ago in June 2019, Cwm Primary School’s choir helped organise a successful concert at St Paul’s Church in Cwm. The choir learnt eight songs to perform at the concert, which also featured performances from Caerphilly Ladies’ Choir and Cwm Male Voice Choir.
“The sell-out concert, with more than 150 people in attendance, raised an amazing £660 which was donated to Tŷ Hafan.
“Spurred on by their success, the choir was planning an even larger concert for Tŷ Hafan for Easter 2020, which would have been held in the school hall to accommodate a bigger audience, as there was a huge demand for tickets from parents and the villagers of Cwm!
“But just before the concert could take place, the country went into lockdown and the school, along with others across Wales, had to close.
“Even though pupils are now back in school, it seems unlikely that concerts will be able to be held in the near future so fundraising plans of the school have changed.
“So the children in my class, Dosbarth Tawe, who are in Year 5, decided they'd like to do a fund-raising event, as Ty Hafan had ‘missed out on donations from us for over a year’ as they hadn’t been able to raise money over the last year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and schools being closed for several months.
“So we have done ‘Six Hours of Fitness’ where myself and my class did one workout every hour of the school day. The children had been very excited about taking part in this challenge, and raising money for Tŷ Hafan.
“All activities have been created by a gym coach and the workouts we did were a mixture of cardio activities and muscle work outs such as: lunges, sit-ups, squats, push ups, running and more.
“All the children have taken sponsor forms home with them so that family and friends are able to sponsor them for their wonderful exercising efforts, they have already raised over £600!”
