The Welsh paediatric palliative care network in collaboration with Tŷ Hafan Childrens hospice is pleased to announce the fourth of our annual series of conferences. Following on from last years successful conference in managing uncertainty, this year we will be focusing on technology and interventions – are they always in the child’s best interest?
Topics will include:
‘Just because we can – should we’: exploring decision making and technology in paediatric palliative care
Care of the child with Gut failure and considerations around starting TPN
Use of Non-invasive ventilation in children will palliative care needs.
Challenges of co-ordinating end of life care at home – the community perspective.
Discussing cannabis oil with families
Ethical and legal considerations around hydration and nutrition at end of life.
The day will update delegates on current practice in managing children with palliative care needs where intervention is possible but where there might be controversy about whether it is truly in their best interests. We will explore where possible the evidence base to inform practice and hear examples from professionals working in this field. It will raise awareness of issues specifically related to children’s palliative care to improve the quality of care, update your skills and develop your practice. Areas of controversy such as prolonged TPN, home ventilation, hydration and Cannabis oil use will be discussed.
This study day is for professionals who care for children with life limiting conditions and at end of life in any setting, at least once or twice a year, but who may not have had the opportunity to have any formal training in paediatric palliative care. Paediatricians, GPs, childrens nurses and allied health care professionals are invited to attend.
A completed booking form must be sent for all delegate bookings. To download the booking form please click hereor please email email@example.com or contact 029 2053 2172
